I slept in today, getting up at 6:10 a.m. (how lazy is that?), missing the Hard Core class in favor of an extra hour of sleep. Besides, I knew I had a training session with Sharon today, what could be "funner" (Sharon's word for harder)?
Breakfast today was our standard fruit plate served alongside an apple muffin, plenty of carbs to move us on up the hikes. The hike I chose today was Annastasi, a hike located directly behind the campus, eliminating the need for the shuttle ride. With some moderate inclines, it was a more participatory hike for me than I've had since I've been here. Instead of just walking at the base, I was able to enjoy a glance into the valley below, as well as pose on some of the overhangs. If you look hard enough in the picture, you can see the eagle formation below me.
Without getting grotesque, I will admit to having my first sports injury since my arrival here at The Ridge, I'll be losing my left big toenail soon. I was so worried about blisters it never occurred to me the force of descending the eight degree incline would inflict significant jarring to my foot and cause this condition. Oh well, maybe I'll get a discount on my pedicure on Saturday.
Our post-hike class today was Alignment Yoga, a more in-depth instruction on how important Yoga is to maintain your body's alignment. After my power nap, I headed over to lunch, Turkey Sandwich and Tortilla Soup. The sandwich is definitely one of my favorite menu items of this week and last. After lunch I enjoyed a thirty-minute rest under the canopy, then moving on to my personal training session with Sharon. She's been training over twenty years and had a great deal of knowledge to share. I now have a new use for the Bosu Ball we invested in a few months ago, not a particularly fun use, but definitely one that will benefit me in building my core strength.
The afternoon classes (Cardio Intervals, Total Body Toning and Stretch) were all repeats from last week, but I did notice a significant improvement in each and every one of them. After a hard day of hiking, strength and endurance classes, we were treated to the much appreciated Chocolate Covered Strawberries for dessert. Nice touch!
I closed out the evening with a Swedish Massage and headed back to my room to finish off the season premiere of The Biggest Loser. I have a strange feeling that it will be especially poignant for me this season since I feel as if I've lived through what they're enduring each week. Now I can understand why you will oftentimes hear them say they're not ready to leave. The controlled environment keeps you focused without the distractions of everyday life. While we all have to go home some time, my hope is I will have the stamina to continue my fight. I know I have the support of my soul mate, my sweet Greg, I just have to continue drawing from my own strength to push forward.

I love you babe.
